This past weekend was the Bridal Extravaganza at the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston. Two full days of all you can look at to do with weddings and anything and everything else you never thought you would need but now must have! Laura had never been before, so it was quite the show. In any case, she was asked to take some photos for Events in Bloom of their booth and as per usual they did it up in grand style!

Sarah and Jordan were married on July 18, 2009 at Christ Church Cathedral with a reception following at the Museum of Natural Science. The couple had a beautiful ceremony and the party at the museum was an elegant event yet still a rocking party! Entertainment was provided by Austin's Blind Date Band who are quickly becoming one of our favorite wedding bands. Not only are they really excellent and seriously versatile, they might even jump on top of a table and rock out for a finale. Serious fun! The scrumptious menu was provided by City Kitchen Catering. They made a chilled Senegalese soup that was to die for, not to mention the filet! Day of event coordination by Alia Rdissi with Belle of the Ball who always makes the day run smooth. The brides cake was fashioned after the design of her dress and was crafted by Nadine with Who Made The Cake! And last but not least, decoration and flowers were provided by Johnathan Andrew Sage. After a honeymoon in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the couple will reside in Houston.

It was all about Harry Reasoner at Vinson & Elkins offices last week, when the man who headed the firm as managing partner from 1992 through 2001 celebrated his 70th birthday and his 45th year with V&E. Nearly 200 well-wishers and family members poured onto the 25th and 26th floors of the swank law offices for food, drink and a strawberry-cream birthday cake, Reasoner’s fave. A string quartet serenaded.

Laura was invited back to take more band photos at Day Jams, a rock n roll day camp for kids which was put on at Grace Presbyterian Church. Really this is a fun and talented bunch of kids! Each child signs up for a certain instrument, guitar, bass, drums, keyboards or voice and then is assigned to a band which has anywhere from 5-10 members. Some bands have several drummers or guitarists. The bands then write their own songs, practice and work on mastering their instruments and then do some art and logos to promote their band. It was great working with them and using their ideas to get image concepts for their posters and CD art. The kids really do seem to be having a great time and we can't wait until Friday night to see the final performance!

David headed out to Katy once again to follow up on some additional requests for images for Refine Your Room. There were additional updates as well as a portrait request for the owner, Rhonda Kaiser, and her faux painter. The details are wonderful and the ceilings were a nice touch.

We recently photographed Sarah Shipley's bridal portrait at a private home in Tanglewood. Sarah is such a charm to work with and a real trooper. Her Lazaro dress and flowers from Johnathan Andrew Sage are amazing. As her wedding was this last weekend we can now share her images. Wedding day images should follow by the end of the week.

Brittany and Jonathon were married on July 11, 2009 at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church with a reception following at the Westlake Club.
The couple really had some nice personal details to make their event unique. They have a little dachshund that could not be at the wedding, so they made sure to include him with some of the decor, and Brittany also gave Jonathan some little dachsund cufflinks as a pre wedding gift as well. There was also a photobooth and some props at the wedding so that the guests could get creative and make a unique scrapbook for the couple for a memento. I always think this is a great idea, because it really shows off your guests' personalities. For some reason once they get into that little curtained booth, they really seem to loosen up and have fun. After much dancing, a delicious dinner and drinks, and a rose petal send off, the couple was whisked away in a limo to start there new life together. Of course they are doing it right by stopping for a honeymoon in St. Lucia first!

This past Saturday, before we headed over to the Watters wedding, Laura stopped by the
Hotel ZaZa and took some photos for Rob at
Events in Bloom. The couple really had Rob go all out for this one with a beautiful bright red, pink and purple decor. A little birdie told me that groom plays professional basketball for the
Golden State Warriors.

Recently Laura was able to go backstage at the Wortham Theater to take photos of the Houston Metropolitan Dance Company and their spring student recital. Laura's daughter, Sadie, takes tap classes there, so she was able to get access to the backstage area to get some behind the scenes shots. Hopefully she will get to do this agin in the fall because it really was a lot of fun!
