Madison's Sweet 16 Party

Last Friday was Madison's sweet 16 shebang and it was a LOT of fun! Madison is the daughter of Rebekah Graves of Dream Bouquet, so when she asked Laura to cover her daughter's goth themed, Rocky Horror tinged party, well she just could not resist as she knew it was going to certainly be unique. The party did not disappoint :)

Madison had unfortunately broken her ankle a week or so before the party, but no fear, mom had an idea to get the party started. First Maddie was carried into the party by two hunky boys on a palanquin to make her grand entrance. The guests then ate, danced and partied until it was time to cut the cake, provided by Edible Designs by Jessie, which was inspired by her gown and was amazing. Maddie then opened her moms gift, which was beautiful ring packaged in many silver boxes. The dancing was then interrupted by a surprise guest, a Dr. Frank-N-Furter impersonator (from Rocky Horror) in full drag. It really was quite a fun surprise for the kids who then broke into the time warp dance. Maddie was even able to join in on crutches. It really was a good time and Rebekah out did herself on the decorations!

Kristen + Paul wedding

Kristen and Paul were married this past Saturday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with a reception following at the Petroleum Club of Houston. St. Paul's is very special to their family as both of their parents were married there, and coincidentally, it was during the same summer. Their story started when they met at Lanier Middle School, then they both went on to Bellaire High School (where they started dating) then on to Texas A&M University. Florals were provided by Wedding Flowers by LIsa and linens courtesy of The Linen House. Don't miss the detail of the groom's truck cake by Cakes by Gina. The happy couple will reside in Houston after they return from the Maui honeymoon.

David also got to photograph at Hermann Park this past week for the engagement session for Erin and Hans. We are covering their wedding this October. We were fortunate enough that the heat and humidity had receded a bit so it was a little more mild and pleasant for the outdoor session.

Roula's bridal shower

This past Sunday, Laura had the opportunity to photograph Roula Christie's bridal shower/tea party at the Hotel Granduca. For those who live under a rock, Roula is one of the morning DJ's at 104.1 KRBE and is one half of the Roula & Ryan Show. She is seriously one of the funniest and warmest people you will ever meet so it is not a surprise that she comes from a wonderful family and has some of the sweetest friends. Roula, thanks so much for letting us be a part of all of your wedding festivities and congratulations to you and Tasos!

Carrie + Theo engagement

David had a great time working with Carrie and Theo this week for their engagement session at the Wortham Promenade downtown. Their wedding is this November at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

Kimberly + Andy wedding

We photographed the wedding of Kimberly and Andy this last weekend. The ceremony was held at St. Pauls United Methodist Church followed by a reception at the Junior League of Houston. The St. Paul's Choir performed for the service, which the groom also participates in. This was the third or fourth time recently that we have got to do a wedding at St. Paul's with the choir, which really adds so much to the weddings. The couple will continue to reside in Houston after they return from their honeymoon.

New Orleans SWPB meet-up

A few weeks ago Laura organized a meet up of a group of photographers in New Orleans, along with the help of Christine Tremoulet. Laura is the administrator of a flickr group called "Starting a Wedding Photography Business", where members discuss topics related to starting and running a wedding photography business (go figure) and just photography in general. In any case about 20 of them from all over the country decided to meet up and have an impromptu workshop and shoot-out of sorts. 

The first day Ryan Brenizer, of New York, led the "un-workshop" and we discussed all sorts of things and then we all went out to take photos of a few real couples from New Orleans. Ryan is awesome and was recently named one of the top 20 wedding photojournalists for 2008 by WPJA. He is also Amazon.com's photography columnist.

The second day was more of a round table discussion (and recovery from the groups jaunt over to Bourbon Street the night before) and we took more photos, this time of one of our photographers in a wedding dress. 

In the following photos you will see a girl carrying around a camera attached to a pringles can. This method of shooting is referred to as TTV or Through the viewfinder. You can see a tutorial here. We have also attached a few images Laura shot with this method to show you, they are the square ones. 

Anyways, we all had a great time and look forward to doing something similar next year....we are thinking New York or San Luis Obispo.

Novalash commercial fashion photography

While David was out of town, Laura got to play with the girls from Novalash again. This time we did a more fashion-oriented session with some really futuristic makeup. I think it looks like something from Cirque du Soleil.

This shoot was really good for exercising some creative muscles and playing with some of our new studio equipment.

Liz & Nathan engagement session

I (Laura here) met Liz & Nathan through their friends Blake & Katie, whose wedding I photographed in April of this year. They wanted to have some engagement photos done in and around the Rice, West University area because that is where Nathan's family home is and it is very scenic.

We started out at about 7am at the park next to the Menil to take advantage of the red swing there. I have taken lots of photos of this swing and it even has "love" painted on it now, which I thought was apropos. We then headed over to the jogging trail by Rice Stadium, but as that was a bit crowded already, we decided to go on over to some oaks by Nathans mother's home. This was just as the sun was really starting to go high in the sky.

After this we headed t the area around T'afia and the Continental Club because it had more color and a sort of urban feel to it. We also got to go to the midtown farmers market after and get some breakfast, which is always yummy!

Liz and Nathan are going to have a destination wedding in Cabo in May.
