Last week David had the pleasure of covering Neighborhood Centers Heart of Gold Celebration. at the Hilton Americas Houston. Though juggling several events that day, one being in the very next ballroom, Mayor Annise Parker had just enough time to honor the award recipient with a city proclamation for Trini Mendnehall Sosa Day.
The event was emceed by KPRC's Kim Davis with additional presentations by John Hernandez with Amegy Bank as well as Joni Baird with Chevron's Public Affairs. This year the Alice Graham Baker Crusader Award was presented to Trini Mendenhall Sosa. This event's attendees always include a great collection of local and state politicians as well as several individuals and corporations that assist NCI in continuing as Houston's largest human resources services organization. The award was presented by George DeMontrond, III and was followed by a closing by President and CEO of NCI, Angela Blanchard.

With our wonderful contacts at NACE we were recently introduced to the gang at Cosmo Cool Concepts, which is one of the largest, Houston-based independent meeting and event planners. We were asked to cover one of their quarterly client and vendor appreciation events. This particular one was held at the recently opened Americas restaurant in the Woodlands. What a fantastic location and group. Everything from the Mayan Indian inspired greeter, to tarot card reader, a live band featuring a couple dancing to Latin inspired music and even a strolling Latin guitarist! To end the evening guests were invited to participate in an Iron Chef inspired dessert creation. What a great evening, if I do say so.
Did I mention the Cosmos? Appropriately chosen drink for the company hosting the event were Nitro Cosmos. Now if you have never seen this in action it is quite exciting. Instead of the traditional chilled mixed drink this one is prepared a little different. The chef pre made the mix and prepared batches by pouring in liquid nitrogen. In about 45 seconds (and with lots of great cold fog) the perfect frozen concoction.
